Animal inspired stretches that will help improve your posture
In addition to loosening the muscles and increasing blood flow, these stretches will also combat bad posture and prevent back and neck pain, not to mention getting in touch with your animal instincts.
- The penguin – whilst you’re waiting for the toaster to pop or a webpage to load, place your elbows at your side and touch your shoulders with your hands. Lift your elbows so they are horizontal with the floor and then lower them down to your sides again. Repeat as long as your wait allows!
- The cat – begin on your knees with both hands placed flat on the floor parallel to your shoulders. Arch your back upwards and then downwards 10 times each.
- The seal – start by lying on your stomach with both hands placed flat by your shoulders and your elbows bent. Push onto your hands until the top half of your body is off the ground and your head tilted back.
- The lion – after completing stretch number 3, push your body backwards so that you are sitting on your feet with your legs bent. Keep your arms stretched in front of you with your hands placed flat on the floor. Be sure to keep your head facing the ground and have your ears in line with your shoulders.
