Bowen Therapy
Bowen Therapy is a simple but effective body balancing system. Through gentle moves on soft tissue at a series of key points on the body, it stimulates energy flow that releases tension, strains and blockages, empowering the body’s own resources to naturally re-balance and heal itself.
The body is a highly complex organism dependent upon the balance of all its aspects. While orthodox medicine tends to take a symptomatic view of disease, Bowen Therapy is truly holistic in its approach.
The Bowen Technique was developed in the 1950’s by the late Tom Bowen in Geelong, Victoria. Although he had no formal training in health care, he had a super sensitive touch and intuitive feel for imbalances at all levels in the body. This allowed him to develop simple but powerful treatment methods for releasing blockages and tension in the nervous, lymphatic and muscular systems. Since the mid 1980’s the technique has been taught on several continents with over 9,000 therapists now practicing worldwide.
A treatment comprises sequences of small gentle moves, each at a specific site on the body. There is no forceful manipulation or adjustment of hard tissue, just a light cross-fibre manoeuvring of a muscle, tendon or ligament; the treatment is very gentle, relaxing and safe for all ages.
The precise location of the Bowen moves correlate markedly with the latest research into the meridian energy system, acu-points and myofascial trigger point therapy.
Observation also suggests the lymphatic system is greatly affected by this technique.
In essence Bowen Therapy rewinds the clock and facilitates the body’s return to its natural, balanced and healthy state.
