The Australian Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Trish Worth, said she was delighted at the historic signing today in Wellington of a Treaty between Australia and New Zealand that will result in Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and the New Zealand Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Authority (Medsafe) replaced by a single agency accountable to both the New Zealand and AU.

Osteoporosis has been called “a pediatric disease with geriatric consequences,” because the bone mass attained in youth is an important determinant of lifelong bone health. Two recent studies funded by the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) are shedding light on the development of bone mass in children and adolescents.

Smart designs for an ageless society

Australian designers, architects and builders are being encouraged to design a ‘community for all ages’ to meet the needs of an ageing population in a new initiative launched today by the Acting Minister for Health and Ageing and Minister for Ageing, Julie Bishop, during an address to the national conference of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects in Melbourne.

Arthritis pain should no longer be considered an inevitable part of growing older, the Federal Minister for Ageing, Julie Bishop, said today, at the start of National Arthritis Week (11-17 April). Ms Bishop, who has portfolio responsibility for arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions, urged all Australians with arthritis to see their doctors and therapists.
