Massage Therapy
Massage Therapy is the hands-on manipulation of muscle and other soft tissue of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, muscle spasm and stress, and promote health and wellness.
Many research studies confirm that massage therapy provides physical, mental and emotional benefits at all stages of life.
Clients are usually asked to remove as much clothing as one is comfortable with, and you will relax on a specially designed table in a warm, quiet room filled with gentle music. Massage therapy comes in many forms, including:
- Swedish – a gentle, relaxing massage (generally the most common form of massage)
- Pressure point therapy – applies concentrated finger pressure to the painful areas of the muscles to break the cycle of spasm and pain.
- Sports massage – which focuses on muscle groups relevant to a particular sport.
The benefits include:
- Relief of muscle tension and stiffness, especially the back and neck area where most of us store the tension.
- Improved circulation of blood and flow of lymph fluids
- Strengthened immune system and disease prevention
- Deep relaxation
- Greater joint flexibility and ease of movement
- Increases awareness of the mind-body connection
“Massage is to the human body what a tune-up is to a car. It provides a physical and mental boost to the weary, sore and stressed” – Chicago Tribune.
Manipulation can be performed by numerous people including: chiropractors, osteopaths, physiotherapists, medical practitioners, masseurs, naturopaths.
