Motorised Flexion Distraction Therapy (M-FDT)

Motorised Flexion Distraction Therapy is a chiropractic technique that provides flexion and traction to specific areas of the spine to aid in the re-creation of lost movement, the decompression and realignment of the spine.

Patients undertake a series of full spine X-rays to determine overall spinal function and biomechanics. Once the X-rays are analysed, the patient lies face down on the Flexion Distraction Table at a specific angle in order to correct the dysfunctions viewed on the detailed x-ray.

The 15-20 minute period of repetitive movements tends to accelerate the rate of healing by increasing blood flow and thus inducing increased spinal range of motion. This technique has been used with great success for the treatment of disc injuries, scoliosis and various other low back complaints.

This therapy has been pioneered at the Sydney Spine & Sports Clinic (located in the Sydney CBD), and an 80% success rate has been achieved after trialing M-FDT over the last 5 years. The therapy is also available in other States.
