PM Kevin Rudd finds relief at Bad Backs

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has made a personal visit to the Bad Backs retail store in Sydney, to peruse their range of remedial back pain products, and look for specific products to help his back.

He arrived last Friday afternoon January 11th with his entourage of security staff, and purchased three types of lumbar support for his car and flying, and made plans to order an ergonomic office chair to help improve his posture while working in his Canberra office.

Since his swearing in as Prime Minister in December 2007, Kevin Rudd has been renowned for his long working hours.  It is known that extended hours desk-bound and traveling can sometimes take its toll on the back.

The staff at the suburban Sydney store in Alexandria were startled to receive the phone call that the Prime Minister would shortly be arriving at their store, on his way back from a trip to Canberra.

“At first we were pretty surprised, as it’s not everyday you see the PM walking through your doors, and to be honest I thought that he would just send his staff in to make the purchase, but he came in and personally tried the products for himself, which is the right way to do things,” says Jonathan Hulme, one of the owners of Bad Backs, “After testing out an office chair, we had him trying all sorts of different back and seat cushions in his car”.

“And other customers visiting the store were startled to see the PM sitting in an office chair next to them” says Hulme.

Bad Backs is Australia’s leading retailer of back pain relief resources and products; spanning ergonomic chairs and laptop stands to neck braces and bedding.  What started as an online store eight years ago (badbacks.com.au), has grown to include retail outlets in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, where customers can touch and feel the merchandise.

“While we have experienced enormous success with the online store, we have found our customers, just like Prime Minister Rudd, have a need to ‘touch and feel’ the merchandise.  Also in our stores our customer service team are on hand to demonstrate how the products should be used or worn, which we did for the PM” says Hulme.

Bad Backs is a source of high-quality, value-for-money products (500+), spanning ergonomic chairs, to lumbar support and massagers, with the selection largely driven by customer demand and feedback.  Our products have also been selected in consultation by a team of health professionals (traditional and holistic), who also provide a comprehensive range of content related to chronic back pain management.

Online visitors return to the site to access the latest innovations and developments in spinal care research, which is sourced from leading international research institutes, hospitals, Government health resources and increasingly from Government-approved alternative therapy sources.

In addition to the latest research and information, Bad Backs has built a community of chronic back pain sufferers with a popular discussion forum related to pain management, providing users with the opportunity to share their personal experiences.
