Rolfing
Rolfing, or structural integration, is an original and scientifically endorsed system of soft tissue manipulation and movement education that organises the whole body in relation to gravity. It works on connective tissue, including muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia (the structure that surrounds muscles).
Dr. Ida Rolf, biochemistry Ph.D. is the founder and developer of the structural integration method with 50 years of study and practice. Her theory presupposed that when the body’s structure is corrected, basic chemical changes take place within the body that improves all over health. Through the specific freeing and changing of the connective tissue, by means of specialised and unique Rolfing touch, we allow the body to find its balance.
The newest findings in Neurology point to the role of the connective tissue in our movement intelligence. Hence the importance of working with the connective tissue so that our brain, form and movement can be effectively coordinated. It was from these findings that the modern “Rolfing Movement” developed.
Of all the forces affecting the human body, gravity is among the most powerful. Body misalignment in gravity results in chronic strain, lowered vitality and impaired biological and psychological functioning. Because the body is better balanced after Rolfing, it expends less of its vital energies against gravity. This biological energy-efficiency is often experienced as higher levels of alertness and vitality.
Movement becomes easier and overall personal functioning tends to improve.
Rolfing is for those suffering from chronic injuries of the neck, shoulders, back, and any area where muscles structures are involved. This includes nerve pain due to tight muscles.
Rolfing is also for those with no real physical complaint, but lack energy and want to retard the aging process or release trauma due to an emotional experience. Rolfing is for anyone who wants to manage stress – be it at work, home, or athletic performance. Rolfing is for anyone who wants greater energy and efficiency in living.
